Quads can't accept too much shear. I've been going to the gym for about 6 months now, and i've noticed that my quads never really get sore, even after a heavy leg day. Back squats are foundation of strength. When i am in the gym i can hammy curl. It's quite possible to squat heavy and not load the quad tons tons (glutes, low back, hips taking over a bit more.).
